Christiania Art Gallery

Amidst the colourful paths lies a small house buzzing with creativity and warmth, where visitors are greeted by a world that blends art, lifestyle and personal passion. The gallery is run by artists who have made the area both their home and studio, and the atmosphere is as vibrant as the colours on the walls.

Christiania Art Gallery is one of those places in Christiania where you spontaneously slow down and just linger a little longer. The gallery is located in the middle of the free town and is run by husband and wife Marios and Stephanie Orozco, who both live and work in the same house.

Even from the outside, the place is hard to miss. The façade is painted in bold rainbow colours and has become a small landmark and one of the most photographed spots in Christiania. When you step inside, it feels more like visiting artistic friends than a traditional gallery. Everywhere you look, there are large canvases filled with vibrant interpretations of Copenhagen, including Nyhavn, Strøget and Tivoli, shrouded in intense shades of yellow, pink and turquoise.

Marios often paints in the room while guests watch, so you can follow a new work from the first brushstrokes to the finished picture. Many of the works are oil paintings where the city almost glows as if the sun has just set and the colours refuse to let go of the sky.

The gallery describes itself as art full of colour, and that is exactly what you get. On social media, they share glimpses of everyday life in Christiania, new paintings on the easels and short videos from the densely packed walls of the gallery. Here, you can clearly sense that Christiania Art Gallery does not just sell pictures, but invites you into a living artist's home where Christiania's free spirit is translated into colour, canvas and curious visitors from all over the world.
